Welcome to Delirium

There is in every madman a misunderstood genius whose idea, shining in his head, frightened people, and for whom delirium was the only solution to the strangulation that life had prepared for him.
Antonin Artaud

The word delirium comes from the Latin word for madness, which derived its meaning from a ploughing metaphor, “de livre”, which literally means to “go off the furrow”.
The purpose of a furrow is to create place to plant a seed and to ensure that they are planted in neat, organised lines. And isn’t that what it means to be “mad”? The person who swims upstream; the individual whom is different.
Now most geniuses were different, and occasionally this led to them being ostracised or being labelled loony. How much time would we have saved if we had given these madmen the freedom and support to grow? Winston Churchill foresaw Hitler’s intention of world domination, but his pleas for help were shot down.
Alternatively the masses use alcohol, drugs, food, shopping, self-inflicted abuse, sex and near-death experiences to try and reach the more blasé state of uncontrolled excitement or emotion we associate with delirium … but I offer an alternative.
What if we could reach this state of mind, not through short-lived meaningless activities, but rather allow our minds to be free from the stranglehold of norms? What if we were to reach this outer stratosphere of thought propelled by the sheer passion and desire for knowledge?
Then we would truly understand delirium, we would understand that this feeling of uncontrolled happiness comes into being when you allow yourself to be free. Allow yourself to follow your dreams and do what you love and have a natural gift for.
That is what I want to do. I want to let you think, allow you to share my thoughts. And discuss ideas. Let us start a revolution. Let us release those held captive by their day-to-day existence … and let us be delirious together.
Let us forge new furrows and allow new dreams to be dreamed up, new ideas to be formed and new geniuses to be nurtured. Let us release our true potential ourselves. I myself still don’t know fully where I’m headed yet, but I do know that I am going to enjoy the journey, and hopefully share some of the magic with you.
